Matcon successfully completed bulk excavation, disposal of contaminated soils, and extensive shotcrete shoring, overcoming challenges posed by hard sandstone with dedicated overtime efforts to maintain the project schedule.
Matcon's scope included bulk excavation and shoring, involving the removal of 1,800 m3 of contaminated soils, as well as the excavation, disposal, and detailed handling of 26,000 m3 of predominantly hard, dense sandstone material.
The project also encompassed the installation of approximately 20,000 SF of Shotcrete shoring and underpinning, complete with conventional tie-back anchors. Uniquely challenging, the Matcon crew dedicated numerous overtime hours to overcome difficulties encountered while excavating and trimming the resilient hard sandstone, ensuring minimal schedule disruptions.
